Camping Lake Negratin in Granada Province, Andalucia

Having just had a couple of days exploring Guadix and the area known as the Altiplano de Granada with its incredible red lunar landscape and abundance of cave houses. I had almost circled the Embalse de Negratin, a beautiful aquamarine reservoir when I spotted a camping sign.

That of course had to be followed especially as it seemed to be heading in the reservoir direction and it was. Just a short walk down to the water´s edge and beach area where there´s a decent bar with great views was a camping as a campsite is called in Spanish.

The reservoir had parked pedal boats, someone fishing and several swimmers and I spotted a boat launch ramp which makes this campsite a great base for water lovers, the camping brochure says canoeing, rowing and windsurfing are possible, and exploring the area too.

Camping La Cabañuela 2km from Freila, 7km from Zújar is a nice level site, it´s fairly new and flat without much shade yet. They have bungalows to rent, there doesn´t seem to be a  website but the email is campingfreila at hotmail.com.

There´s nothing in the world quite like getting back to nature. Lying on the grass, watching the stars and listening to the sounds of nature.
