The spot we'd never actually got to before is the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata - Nijar the largest protected area of coast in Andalucia with wild, isolated desert-scrub landscape and volcanic cliffs creating small, protected sandy coves. It also has its own micro-climate making it an ideal area for winter camping.
The campsites we visited in Almeria were:
Camping Cabo de Gata - Largish very flat site
Camping Cuevas Mar - Flat and uninspiring with nice grassy pool area
Camping Cueva Negra - Very well-kept with an unusual covered pool and coin-operated Jacuzzi
Camping Los Escullos - Largish, nicely laid out welcoming
Camping Sopalmo - Small, family run site
Camping Tau de San Jose - Small, rustic and very pleasant
My personal favourite was Camping Tau de San Jose which doesn't having a swimming pool and my favourite with a pool Camping Cueva Negra.
